The enterprise AI question is no longer whether engineers will use coding agents. They already will.
The leadership question is whether the organization can afford, govern, and maintain the workflow after the demo ends.
I have used coding agents daily since 2023, and the biggest value has never come from pretending review and maintenance disappeared. It comes from moving faster while keeping the delivery system honest. Microsoft pulling back direct Claude Code licenses in one division is a useful signal: even strong teams hit cost, procurement, and standardization constraints.
The winners will not be the teams with the flashiest agent setup. They will be the teams that connect agents to review policy, observability, cost controls, and clear ownership.
AI coding becomes enterprise-grade only when it survives finance, security, and maintenance.
